7 Ways to Decorate Your Kitchen for Fall

Decorating the kitchen for Fall is a real matter of consequence. Find out more on how you can decorate your kitchen for wall!

The chance to celebrate the transition of the seasons gets most of us excited. In this context, decorating the kitchen for Fall is a real matter of consequence. Kitchens have become social hubs of our households and that’s where we spend a decent amount of time.

That’s why taking kitchen fall decorations seriously is so important for setting the mood.

Fall kitchen decor vignettes can be arranged in different places including countertops, backsplash, cabinets, tables, walls, range hood, windows, open shelves, and even above cabinets.

While some of the ideas are DIY-friendly (such as collecting branches and leaves in a local park or forest, DIY crochet or velvet pumpkins, and painting plastic fruits in Fall colors) and you can find most of the items at home, at the local market, or in the nearby forest or park, you might want to consider buying some stuff from Etsy or Amazon.

There are several general rules to keep in mind whether you are decorating your kitchen countertops, cabinets, island, or table:

  • keep the overall character and style of the kitchen in mind: decor that looks great in a Farmhouse kitchen might not be suitable for a Japandi-style kitchen
  • Be mindful of the hygiene and elements you use on your countertop space.
  • It’s a good idea to put the decor elements on some sort of base, such as a tray.
  • Mind the timing: early fall kitchen decorations utilize more green tones compared to the red and orange colors of the late fall kitchen decorations
  • Do not compromise the countertop workspace for grand autumn decorations. Utilize the area on your kitchen countertops that you don’t really use anyways: such as deep corners or behind the sink.

When to Decorate for Fall

Some of us get all excited about the coming fall and want to put pumpkins everywhere on the 1st of September. However, it is a good question to ask: what month do you start decorating for fall? The idea is to synchronize the decorations with the weather and the mood that it creates.

The time to start decorating for fall might vary depending on where you live. The closer your geographic position to the equator, the later you will see noticeable changes indicating that it’s already Fall. According to my experience, it gets colder in the Czech Republic sooner than it gets in Georgia. The earliest you can start decorating for fall is late August and the latest is in mid-October.

If you start decorating for fall relatively early, you might want to keep the color scheme relatively green, as the decorations should synchronize with what’s going on in the environment. Later on, you should add more oranges, reds, or shades of brown.

How do you decorate a fall countertop?

It’s easy to get carried away with the process and create heavy rich arrangements or harvest baskets on the countertop, but ask yourself: is it really a good idea? Countertops have a function: they serve as spaces to prep food.

Laying out harvest baskets or leaves’ arrangements with lights to create a beautiful autumn kitchen vignette will limit countertop space. It might not also be the best idea in terms of hygiene: some of the items we tend to use for kitchen fall decorations come directly from nature or thrift stores.

When it comes to decorating a countertop for fall, I would suggest keeping it simple. Three main points to keep in mind while creating a Fall kitchen vignette:

  • use functional yet beautiful items that you already have. That gorgeous copper mug would do wonders! Those beautiful wood cutting boards too!
  • Use the space that you don’t really use anyways, such as deep corners of the countertop
  • keep hygiene in mind, and try to put the decor elements on surfaces such as trays.

How to achieve fall vibes? The trick is to use warm tones and natural materials. Warm tones can be achieved with different materials: pottery, wood, and copper elements. Natural elements can usually be collected outside, in the garden, forest, or park. Take garden scissors with you while going for an evening stroll and you will be amazed, at how many beautiful things you might come across.

How to arrange Fall decor above kitchen cabinets

You might have heard that decorating above kitchen cabinets is out of style. Is it really true? As a designer, I do not agree with that. In fact, utilizing a seemingly useless space between cabinets and ceilings is a nice way to celebrate autumn in your kitchen. Two important things to keep in mind: the viewer perceives the decor from below, and the distance between cabinets and the ceiling should be taken into account for a stylish look.

Among other items, you can count on using colorful autumn garlands, wire or rattan baskets, lights, natural elements, or their imitations, such as pumpkins and colorful fruits to achieve the autumn vibes on your kitchen cabinets.

The intensity of the decor depends on the overall design of your kitchen.

fall kitchen table decor

fall decorations on the kitchen table can take many different variations, but one thing that is absolutely necessary is to decorate the kitchen table centerpiece. The centerpiece serves as a focal point, draws attention to itself, makes a statement, and sets the mood.

The kitchen table centerpiece can be arranged in two basic ways: along the table, if the table is rectangular, or right in the middle of the table no matter the shape of the table. A Centerpiece for kitchen fall decor can be placed on a bowl, atray, or a cloth with warm tones.

Autumn flowers and leaves with subtle tones combined with the warmth of a vase or a tray made of natural or faux materials will do wonders.

tip: use three elements for aesthetically pleasing vignette composition. One of them can serve as a vertical accent.

Fall decor on kitchen backsplash

Yes, you can absolutely use the backsplash to amplify autumn vibes. Any decor element that can stick or hang would work, including tile stickers, textiles, leaves, or even dried fruits or flowers. A mug hanger can host beautiful mugs with seasonal ornaments or colors, and don’t forget about copper dishware: they are priceless when it comes to decorating the kitchen for fall!

How do you decorate a fall buffet?

I recommended keeping it simple when it comes to decorating the kitchen countertops, but I would not do the same for buffets. Buffet counters are not as busy as kitchen countertops, and they can be easily used for seasonal displays. The open character of buffet cabinets (if any) helps you to use the most out of them. You can go bold, add colors, pumpkins, and leaves, or keep it classy.

Fall decor for kitchen island

Just like the kitchen table, fall decor for the kitchen island needs some sort of centerpiece to look complete. The centerpiece is necessary as a focal point, draws attention to itself, makes a statement, and sets the mood.

The kitchen island centerpiece can be arranged in two basic ways: along the island, if the table is rectangular, or right in the middle of the island. A Centerpiece for kitchen fall decor can be placed on a bowl, atray, or a cloth with warm tones.
